And so it begins (again)

Well Christmas 2006 was very good to me (writing-wise at least). I finally got a copy of FINAL DRAFT (and not just some half-assed, downloaded, bootleg version). Which means I now have zero excuses left not to get off (well I suppose I'll be sitting so...get on) my ass and get some serious screenwriting done.

I'll be 25 in a little under a year. I feel like it's "put up or shut up" time when it comes to writing. I've got a lot of ideas, but ideas are really nothing.

So with that said, I'm now about 16 pages on my second, full-length horror/thriller script FAMILY FIRST. It's my second script, but the less said about the first script the better. I flipped through a copy of that one (it's gone by two titles, DARKEST NIGHT and IN THE DARK), and to say it's cringe-worthy would be a massive understatement. I'm confident that this new script will be better.

As far as my ambitions towards TV writing are concerned, I'm still planning on writing a spec VERONICA MARS. However, I really feel like I need to go back to the drawing board with my initial idea. In its current form it just seems a little too WALKER TEXAS RANGER-ish. Ugh. Plus, I'm trying to get my hands on a copy of a script from this season. I feel like there's been some slight changes to the show's format since the move to the CW and I'd like to keep my script as up-to-date (format-wise) as possible.

I honestly feel excited about all of these possibilities. I've wanted to be a writer since the first grade. I've got all the necessary tools except the writing (which I hear is a key ingredient). But that's all gonna change for 2007.

Happy New Year to me.
