Wow, really haven't updated this in forever. Maybe I'll just delete everything and start again doing more in the way of writing and promoting said blog. Or let it wither and die. Who knows...

Gosh
It's been a while since I've updated this here blog. Guess I've been a little busy with all that pesky "life" stuff.
I've had a few more requests for FAMILY FIRST. And a couple of requests that turned into rejections but that's to be expected. The fingers are still crossed though (hopefully that doesn't lead to any sort of arthritis later on...).
I'm still in the midst of editing my first draft of BET ON BLOOD. It's been a bit of a slog to be quite honest, but I AM looking forward to the rewrite. There's some great stuff in there and I just need to move things around in such a way that those great things shine bright.
And I'm still circling around a DEXTER spec. I really need to make some forward progress on that. Part of me just feels a bit intimidated in trying the TV drama format. But it'll come. I know it.
I should write a longer post soon. Maybe two. One about writing plans for the summer and another about what I've been reading/watching. Yes, I think I'll do just that.

Okay...
So I started querying managers about FAMILY FIRST. So far I've had 2 requests by managers to read my script. The journey has taken another turn...
Awesome.
Of course, this is only the beginning...

Celebration
So, let's ignore the fact that my apartment leaks like the CIA. Seriously, puddles of water. Way to go shitty maintenance compant. But we're ignoring that.
Let's ignore the fact that the day job looks like it's gonna be at its busiest over these next few weeks. It is what it is, I'm afraid.
Instead, I want to say: The first draft of BET ON BLOOD...is finished! YES! Took me long enough. Now it's time to set that aside for awhile (let it marinate) and get started on my next project (DEXTER spec). Looks like I have a lot of Dexter watching to do, followed by outlining, and writing.
Meanwhile, the contest count for FAMILY FIRST continues to rise. So far I've entered it in BlueCat, Scriptapalooza, Nicholl, and trackingb (which I already lost). Still to come: Austin, Final Draft Big Break, Screamfest LA, and Shriekfest. Of course, I have to space these entries out a little better because DAMN those things are expensive.

Updating at work?
Sure, why not? I'm a bit ahead anyway and feeling good about it.
I finished my tweaking (that sounds vaguely unsettling) of Family First yesterday. Then turned right around and entered it in another contest (Scriptapalooza). It's contest season from now until like June, so I expect I'll be entering it in a few more. Frustratingly enough, I just received an e-mail from Blue Cat telling me they hadn't received my entry or payment.
Uh...I don't think so. Or did I just imagine getting Early Bird feedback from the contest because I submitted my screenplay (and payment for that matter) early. Hopefully that'll all get cleared up quick-like.
I know I say this every time I post but the 1st draft of Bet on Blood is thissssss close to being wrapped up. Fingers crossed that this is the week it happens.
Movie-watching plans: DOOMSDAY and THE BANK JOB in the theater. BRAZIL on DVD from Netflix. I've also got some TV to watch (I really need to have a Dexter marathon in preparation for my spec script).
Oh well, back to doing the work that pays the bills.
P.S. http://trailersfromhell.com is a fun site.

Slight bummer
So I didn't win (or place) in the trackingb contest. It's cool though. It was my first screenplay contest (with the exception of the short script I entered in the Eerie Horror Film Fest 2 years ago).
In a way it's a bit freeing, I know what rewrite work/tweaking needs to be done on FAMILY FIRST. Now I can do it. I know it's a good script and with these tweaks it's gonna be a great script.
Plus BET ON BLOOD's 1st draft is almost done. Go me!

Another day, another dollar...
The writing pace on the 1st draft of BET ON BLOOD has picked up a bit lately. I really feel like I've made it over what I like to call the "1st draft hump" on this one. I know it's gonna need a lot of work on the rewrites, but HEY! that's what writing is all about. Right?
On the contest front, I got my early feedback from BlueCat. Seemed pretty positive and there were also a few suggestions that seemed like they could work. Combine that with the notes from my screenwriting teacher and it looks like FAMILY FIRST still has some work to be done on it.
They announced the honorable mentions for the trackingb.com contest. I was not among them. Fingers crossed though, I could still end up as a finalist (Hey, a guy's gotta dream).
I should start doing some work on my DEXTER spec as well.
